Marta Malynovska. Exhibition of the tapestry series “Simple Forms”. 3.02 – 1.03.2026
At her first solo exhibition, Lviv-based artist Marta Malynovska will present tapestries that stand at the intersection of the Ukrainian tradition of hand weaving, her geometric abstraction, and the visual explorations of pop art. For Marta, these images are an inner study of the perception of the world, where chaos gradually transforms into harmony.
Malynovska works in the technique of hand weaving with wool. Wool preserves the archetype of weaving and the sacredness of the past, while at the same time bringing forward the ecological sensitivity of the present. The tactility of the artist’s handmade works, and the natural texture they create, gives the viewer a sense of the presence of a bodily dimension — material as the energy of nature and manual labor.
This kind of practice allows Marta Malynovska to present this rare craft medium at leading contemporary exhibitions. In particular: “Trullo 227” (Apulia, Italy), “Cosmogony of Senses” (Lutsk, Ukraine), “Scythia” (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine), as well as many specialized projects such as the All-Ukrainian Textile Triennial (Kyiv, 2014, 2016, 2021), Textylism (Lviv, 2011–2017), and Textile Miniature (Lviv, 2012–2017).
The series “Simple Forms,” consisting of more than ten tapestries created between 2011 and 2025, will be presented at the Zelena Kanapa Gallery from February 3 to March 1, 2026.
The exhibition opening is scheduled for February 3 at 6:00 PM.
