Side glance. The exhibition of Yana Hudzan.

Side glance. The exhibition of Yana Hudzan.

A young artist Yana Hudzan has chosen pictures of Ukrainian villager grandmothers, surrounded with all their inherent life and traditions, which reflect their life experience as the quintessence of social memory, heritage and mythology as a theme of her picturesque paintings. She is researching an Ukrainian identity through the modern ironic prism. By combining different materials and techniques in multi-layered compositions, she creates a visual language, which is simultaneously intimate and common. Conversations between the past and present, between herself and society. Not interfering, but side glancing, you can notice patterns and inconsistencies. Also, the familiar situations, where the same basic myth is being reproduced in different decorations. Because of this play with archetypes, the associations appear, which create visual images and for a brief second, everything gains its explanation and obtains meaning.
