Birds, clocks, flowers and gendarmes. Art research by Khrystyna Pryymak. 11/11/2025 – 7/12/2025
For an artist, an art critic and a teacher Khrystyna Pryimak, born in a town called Sokal’ in Lviv oblast, a choice of a theme for creativity was obvious — folk art of Sokalshchyna .
During the exploration Khrystyna was always amazed by highly developed esthetic taste and understanding of beauty of local craftsmen, especially potters. Their perfect feeling of rhythm and proportions. With time, the idea of own rethinking, integration of ceramic motifs of Sokalshchyna in her own pictorial works. Khrystyna Pryimak used them as symbols, adding her own philosophy to it. Perhaps, it’s an unique way of modern artist to preserve and remind of unreal inheritance of Sokal’s ceramics of 19th – beginning of 20th centuries. An exhibition of painting of Khrystyna Pryimak is set to open in Green Sofa art gallery on 11th of November at 18:00.

Khrystyna Pryymak was born on December 5, 1980 in the city of Sokal, Lviv region.
Education:
1998-2004 – Lviv National University named after I. Franko, Faculty of Law, specialist in the specialty “Jurisprudence”.
2005-2011 – Lviv National Academy of Arts, Faculty of PDM, Department of Artistic Textiles, Master, specialty “Art, Fine and Decorative and Applied Arts”, specialization “Artistic Textiles”.
2011-2014 – postgraduate study at the Lviv National Academy of Arts .
2019 – successfully defended her PhD thesis and received the degree of Candidate of Arts. Thesis topic: “Folk Art of Sokal Region of the Second Half of the 19th – First Half of the 20th Century. in the conditions of the ethnocultural borderland (history, typology, artistic features)”. Khrystyna is the author of a number of publications concerning the development of Ukrainian folk art in the conditions of the ethnocultural borderland. During her postgraduate studies, she taught a course in painting at the Oksana Bondaruk School of Arts. At the same time, she was engaged in painting, experimenting with the subject matter and technique of execution. The main source of inspiration was the material studied during her scientific work. The lion’s share of creative works was created based on the folk art of the Sokal region (ceramics, embroidery, Easter eggs). Today, Khrystyna Pryymak is a participant in a number of plein airs, exhibitions and art projects, including “Dreams of the Migratory”, “Inspired by Pinzel in Godovytsia”, “Uncaught”, “Artistic Tartak”, “Aquarium. Florarium.”, Arte expo d’UKRAINE, “Continue”, “Necesaria”.
