Intimate portraits. Collection #6. Sergii Mykhalkiv. 14.10 – 9.11.2025
The art of fine photography is losing its positions due to millions of digital images being created every second. Because of the mass presence of amateurs, the value of the work of professional photographers is often diminished in the eyes of a broad audience. In the pre-digital era, if a photograph was not printed on paper, it was nothing more than a negative. With this exhibition I want to show that a materialized, printed image prevents photography from disappearing as an art form.” Serhiy Mykhalkiv.
Since 1998, Serhiy Mykhalkiv has been photographing nude women. Inspired by the relaxed charm and natural beauty of the female body, which artists of different eras admired so much. He says that the genre of his works is not erotic. Mykhalkiv likes the definition given to him by a fellow photographer regarding his style, namely – “an intimate portrait.”
Since 2007, Sergii has participated in various exhibitions at the Green Sofa Gallery, such as “Pacification of Eros” or “Euro-2012.” In 2017, Serhiy held his personal exhibition in the gallery.
We are interested in exploring the perception of his new exhibition today, eight years after the previous one. After all, the perception of images of the female body has changed since then due to the rethinking of social views on issues of gender, feminism, objectification of the female body, body positivity, and so on.
Will the art of nude photography remain just as controversial, will its positive perception increase, or the opposite? And has the number of fine art photography collectors in Ukraine grown?
The exhibition opening will take place on October 14 at 6:00 p.m.
Admission is free.
