TRANSIT. Painting by Ihor Romanko. June 2 – 28, 2020

TRANSIT. Painting by Ihor Romanko. June 2 – 28, 2020

When you are firmly on the path you have begun to follow, I think you are happy.

 Hregoriy Skovoroda.

Ihor Romanko’s work is a kind of fixation of the surrounding world in the “iconographic” style, through the inner worldview and philosophical rethinking of the depicted.

All flowing plots: landscapes, objects or portraits become frozen monuments to oneself and memories of oneself.

It so happened that at this exhibition the image of the road became the central image. It is a kind of small “album of old photos” with images of transited, experienced, contemplated things, feelings and cognitions. After overcoming their time, they left behind a baggage of images.

Almost all works at the exhibition were created in 2020.

Hryhoriy Skovoroda is a traveling philosopher, inspired Ihor Romanko for the artist’s second portrait, which will also be presented for the first time at the exhibition.

Ihor Romanko has been actively exhibiting since 1987. He is a participant in exhibitions and biennials, and a graduate of competitions in Ukraine (Kyiv. Lviv, Kaniv, Poltava, etc.) and abroad: Andy Warhol Museum (Slovakia), Japan (Tokyo and Nara), Poland (2nd – 6th Biennial “Silver Square”) and others. His works are in collection of Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Ethnography Museum in Lviv, Modern Art Museum Andy Warhol in Slovaks, Artique Gallery in Sidney, Art Palace in Lviv, bank Vontobel in Switzerland, Triptych Art Gallery in Kyiv, and many private collections. But Ihor Romanko had only seven personal exhibitions. The last time in Lviv was in 2014 at the “Green Sofa” Art gallery. Therefore, it is a rare and expected event in the artistic life of the country.

Visits to the exhibition are free. From Tuesday to Sunday from 12 to 19:00.
