“Silhouettes of Lviv”. Ceramics of Vasyl Bodnarchuk. October, 10 – 29. 2017
For most people ceramics are the applied things or like artists are joking is a pots. However, the assistant professor of the department of artistic ceramics of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, Honored Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnarchuk knows perfectly well that it is not so. Ceramics is a universal artistic technique that can combine the principles of volume plastic (sculpture), graphics and painting with the ability to create a picture on a clay plane and decorate its incredible depth of ceramic coatings.
A talented person is talented in everything. Since the 70’s Vasyl Bodnarchuk has been developing as an artist of pottery and is equally talented transferring his experience to students of the Department of Art Ceramics of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, opening up to them the wide possibilities of artistic ceramics.
Vasyl Bodnarchuk offers a series of creative works entitled “Silhouettes of Lviv” for an exhibition in the “Green sofa” Art Gallery. Ceramic layers based on the architecture of the old Lviv with picturesque effects for the achievement of which the artist uses colored enamels, polishes, metal oxides, colored clay and stained glass. This series of 9 art works is the basis of the exposition. The exhibition is complemented by ceramic plates from the series “Between the Years”, “Wanderings”, “From the Origins”. Already from the names of these works it becomes clear that the artist is neo-romantic, or as he called by the doctor of historical sciences Oles Poshivaylo – MAESTRO OF THE UKRAINIAN POTTER NEO-ROMANTICISM.
He was born in 1948 in Tiazov village in Stanislav region (now Ivano-Frankivsk region). Studied at the Kosiv School of Applied Arts (1963-1968) and at the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1970-1975).
Participant in All-Ukrainian symposiums of ceramics in Opishne (Diploma 2000, 2001). Since 2000 teacher of the Department of Art Pottery at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. 2007-2008 – participant of international exhibitions of European art in Ravich, Poland. He is the author of 21 personal exhibitions in Ukraine and Poland, as well as participant of more than 100 exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Since 2009 – Honored Artist of Ukraine. In 2011 Associate Professor of the Department of Art Pottery at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. From 2016 – private professor of the Lviv National Academy of Arts.
He is engaged in ceramics of exhibition character, architectural and landscape ceramics, painting and graphics.
The art works are in the collections of the Museum of Ethnography and Arts in Lviv, the National Museum of the Reserve in Opishne, Concern Electron, Electron Bank, Western Ukrainian Commercial Bank, Bank Lviv and others. Also in private collections in the USA, Canada, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.
