On the 12th of August at 5pm the Green Sofa Gallery begins the event dedicated to Igor Sikorskiy "31 plus O" with the following participants: Igor Gapon, Igor Teplyj, Igor Fylypiv and Oles' Noga. As it often happens the idea of the project was born accidentely as Igor Pylypiv, who is a citizen of the USA as well as Igor Sikorskiy was, lives in the same city where Sikorskiy lived and died – Iston (Connecticut). Apart from geographical coincidence artists were impressed by the following facts:
- In the chart "Great Ukrainians " that was held in the TV channel "Inter" Igor Sikorskiy was named among 100 of the most famous Ukrainians. …" famous hat that belonged to Igor Sikorskiy along with his first helicopter is kept in the museum of Smitson's Institute in the USA among the most precious items. In Kiev, on the house where he was born and grew up there is only a very modest sign. According to the American and European researches Sikorskiy occupies extremely important part in the history of the XXth century along with brothers Wright and Charles Lindberg; Ukrainian historians lazily agree with them in the sense that they can not be bothered to think about American Sikorskiy as well as about Lindenberg, but they do not mind. In America his name is connected with thousands of saved lives – in the sea, in the mountains, on fire, in the places of military actions; he is still blessed by the lifeguards and saved people; and in Ukraine? It is good if his name is remembered at all. – "Fragment show".
- Sikorskiy took part in creating of first divisions of Ukrainian Air-born forces in 1917;
- In Lviv in 1914 garages for the best planes by Sikorskiy "Illia Muromets" were built;
- His planes defended Independent Carpathian Ukraine in 1938-1939.
So is it clear why Sikorskiy? And now in order we will talk about the artists who honour Sikorskiy:
